Alison Statton, born 1982 in England, founded the alternative rock group Weekend
after the dissolution of Young Marble Giants in 1981. The band emerged from a
collaboration between Alison Statton and Spike of Reptile Ranch, later joined by
Simon Emmerson, and signed with Rough Trade Records in December 1981. Their
debut single, "The View From Her Room" / "Leaves of Spring", appeared in 1982.
The breakthrough came with the studio album La Varieté, released in 1982. In
1983 the group issued the live album Live at Ronnie Scott's, and in 1984 the
