Velvet Empire was a Canadian pop music group formed in Spring 2002 through the
second edition of the Global TV show Popstars, entitled "Boy Meets Girl." The
group consisted of Alex Price, Justin Humes, Janelle Belgrave, Lacey Block and
Ryan Hamilton. Velvet Empire recorded their first and only album, Velvet Empire,
at Metalworks Recording Studio in Toronto. Their debut single "Frontin' on Me"
received significant radio and video play, but the album's sales did not meet
expectations. The group disbanded by 2003.
