The Newbeats are an American pop vocal trio formed in the 1960s, led by Larry
Henley. The group consisted of Henley, Dean Mathis and Mark Mathis, who began
their musical journey as children learning guitar from their mother. After
playing in various bands throughout their early careers, including Paul Howard's
Western swing band and Dale Hawkins' band, the Mathis brothers recorded together
under the name Dean & Marc for the Chess record label. The Newbeats formed after
Larry Henley joined Dean and Mark Mathis in 1959, and the group gained
