The Staatskapelle Weimar, based in Germany, traces its origins back to 1482 when
a musical ensemble was formed for the Weimar Fürsten. The ensemble attained
resident status at the Weimar court as the Herzoglichen Hofkapelle in 1602 and
has since been associated with notable musicians such as Johann Sebastian Bach
and Franz Liszt. In 1988, the ensemble was officially renamed the Staatskapelle
Weimar. Throughout its history, the orchestra has had several prominent
conductors, including Hermann Abendroth, who served from 1945 to 1956, and
