Johnny Hates Jazz is a British pop band formed in London in 1986 by Clark
Datchler (vocals, keyboards), Calvin Hayes (keyboards, drums) and Mike Nocito
(bass, guitar). Their style combines sophisticated pop, catchy melodies and the
smooth production characteristic of the late 1980s. The band's name comes from a
friend's joke. Signed to Virgin Records, they achieved international success
with their first major single, "Shattered Dreams " (1987), which reached #5 on
the UK charts and #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1988. Other hits followed:
