The Italian pop/rock band Dik Dik was formed in Milan in 1965. Within a year, the group had climbed to the top of the Italian charts with "Sognando la California," a cover of The Mamas and the Papas' "California Dreamin.'" Although they scored a similar hit in 1967 with "Senza Luce" — an Italian cover of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" — Dik Dik also released original material, often teaming up with collaborators like Lucio Battisti (who co-wrote the band's "Dolce di Giorno") and Mogol (who composed their 1968 chart-topper, "Il Primo Giorno di Primavera").
