Helen Kate Shapiro, born on 28 September 1946 in Bethnal Green, London, is a
British pop and jazz singer and actor. Raised in a Clapton council flat in the
London Borough of Hackney, her early musical training included singing lessons
at the Maurice Burman School of Modern Pop Singing. Her breakthrough came in
February 1961 when she released her first single, "Don't Treat Me Like a Child",
