She began her career in the mid-1970s, initially releasing pop/soul singles under Decca Records. Hazell Dean's breakthrough came in the 1980s when she transitioned to hi-NRG dance music. In June 1984, "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)" (1983) became her first Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at number 6.
